Fitness covers a broad spectrum of components and in reality fitness is task specific relative to individual requirements. There are 5 basic components of fitness:
Strength
Speeed
Skill
Stamina (endurance)
Psychology
The work of the physiotherapist is to determine which components require attention and devise a treatment plan specific to those challenges.
Fitness is a very general term which not only applies to sports participation but virtually every aspect of daily living.
- Fitness to lift and carry in manual jobs
- Fitness to stand for shop assistants
- Fitness to carry a baby for young mothers
- Fitness to walk for elderly folk
- Fitness to bend, reach, twist in aging populations
